Reverend Dr. Patricia L. Hunter’s ministry has unfolded through preaching, pastoral service, theological education, advocacy for survivors, financial wellness, and the shaping of faith communities.
Reverend Dr. Patricia L. Hunter’s ministry journey began with strong preparation and faithful service. During her early ministry years, she earned a Master of Divinity from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York, was ordained by Mount Zion Baptist Church, and served as Assistant Pastor to Dr. Samuel B. McKinney.
Her ministry has included Vacation Bible School leadership, advocacy and care for survivors of sexual and domestic violence, national leadership with women in ministry, theological teaching, public writing, financial wellness education, and pastoral service.
Over four decades, Dr. Hunter has modeled a ministry that speaks to both soul and society — combining preaching, education, financial wisdom, and justice-centered leadership.

Ordination, pastoral service, and women in ministry leadership
Earned a Master of Divinity, was ordained by Mount Zion Baptist Church, served as Assistant Pastor to Dr. Samuel B. McKinney, directed Vacation Bible School, ministered with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and served as Director of Women in Ministry for American Baptist Churches USA.
Denominational service and doctoral scholarship
Served as Field Representative with the Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board, ABCUSA, and earned a Doctor of Ministry from Saint Paul School of Theology. Her dissertation focused on womanist theology and womanist thought as tools for evangelism and discipleship.
Teaching, writing, and financial planning ministry
Served as adjunct professor at Seattle University and Pacific Lutheran University, wrote as a Faith and Values columnist for The Seattle Times, earned the Certified Financial Planner professional designation, and led national financial planning ministry with clergy and church staffs.
Outreach, education, retirement, and renewed Mount Zion service
Taught God and Money at Seattle University, served as Minister of Outreach and Education at Seattle First Baptist Church, directed financial wellness programs at MMBB, retired after 33 years from MMBB, served as Interim Minister of Worship at Mount Zion Baptist Church, and served as a Seattle Community Police Commission Commissioner.
